Root imma noob plz help, tried everything

hey guys, ive actually rooted and installed custom roms on almost every phone ive had, thanks to this site and its developers so thanks, ive never had to ask a question, but ive got the lg spectrum (vs920) and I cant even get root on it, it auto updated to v8 ota. I cant downgrade, ive tried all the ICS root guides, nothing seems to be working. im running windows 8 and I think that might be the problem bu its never gave me troubles yet??? so im not sure if the debugging mode just isn't working/ the drivers wont install right or what. its rather frustrating. and when I downgraded I even disabled the modem in device manager and the software got to 30% and said it couldn't connect to my phone. im really at a loss at what to do guys plz help
 
just got this stupid phone, first thing it did when I turn it on is auto update the firmware, in my gosh darn pocket.
 
sorry to hear about your problems. I would help but I know nothing about windows 8 and like you said, thats probably your problem. My advice would be to use another pc with vista or 7. This phone is super easy to root and the v8 update should not effect the root process. (I personally have never run v8 because my phone hasn't been stock since october when ICS first came out...I have been on custom roms since, and JB roms since december) I'm pretty sure a few people have successfully rooted while on v8. My experience in these cases is 99 times out of a hundred there is user error at work.

But like I said...This phone is very easy to root and I would just advise you to try a pc on a proper version of windows :]

I just had to cab flash V8 and had no problems rooting or otherwise with it. I would agree it's a Windows 8 problem (Lol at the "proper version of windows"), I used 7 with no problems.
 
thanks guys, and ill admit it usually is a user error with me but if I run into problems I go and back step to find out what im doin wrong and for the life of me I cant figure this one out, been tryin for 2 days now lolz, say it is my windows, which its probably me, is there a way around this, like maybe a Linux terminal emulator or something? and if so any advice? thanks in advance

there's no need to downgrade. Basically what you need to do is either try neph's advice or just find a pc with windows 7 or vista and then root and flash whatever rom you want.
 
alright heres the real question, if I downgrade and upgrade to cm10.1 will my Bluetooth still break? or am I ****** either way I go, I saw somewhere that theres a kernel that wont? which is that? and is it worth it just to use the pwn tool then instead of the tedious way im going about it?
plus downloaded that driver package must I reboot after its done? cuz im getting nowhere

I think bluetooth has issues on all roms except cm10 or aokp41. I know unlocking the bootloader breaks bluetooth on ics roms. Bluetooth works on 4.2 roms but has a bug where it turns off and will not cut back on except with a restart
 
oh plz help I don't have a way around the windows 8 thing, and the drivers I installed I cannot find, adb doesn't even recognize my phone, I used the command adb devices and it oesnt ven pop up, I tired a shell command and "error, device not found" I know its a waste of all ur time but any help would be much appreciated
 
Grab a linux live CD, probably ubuntu 12.04, and boot from that if you really want to. I'm guessing that your drivers are still out of date if it's not finding your phone under Win8. Are you sure you fully installed that universal driver I pointed you to?

P.S. , if you can't get it working in Windows 8, be very careful. You brick your phone and you'll be needing to find someone with Win7 or lower to fix it if my guess is right.

Excellent advice. Here's two rules that I follow and I've never bricked any device:

Never take an ota update.

Never flash recovery and ROM together. Always make sure one works before touching the other.
