Impact of Apple's rumored iBeacon on the use of NFC in the Nexus 5

The thread is what it looks like. Apple has recently been rumored to have been trying out a combination of a Bluetooth Smart (v4.0) contextual/location based paying and coupon system that could have a huge impact on the worldwide adoption of NFC, specifically on newer phones such as the Nexus 5. It's allegedly called iBeacon. As a huge android fanboy myself, I wonder what you guys think of this idea and how it might change the course of our use of NFC in payment systems and couponing systems like we had hoped for.

BLE tech reaches 150 feet and is always on. Retailers can push ads as you shop.

NFC is less than a foot and is user driven for everything.

BLE sounds more attractive to retailers, NFC seems more attractive to consumers.

PayPal, Facebook and Apple are said to be supporting mobile payment options, maybe Google will join in.

I'm going to stay out of it.

I would guess that as soon as Apple begins to use (or they would say reinvent) NFC, it will become much more prominent and useful. AFAIK, NFC tags and the odd bit of contact less payment are all you can do atm
