in-car - hands free & media sharing

My car has no bluetooth, just a 3.5 jack socket as an aux connection.

My main aim is to be able to play music from the phone to the car. I could just get a lead to go from the headphone socket to the car, but thats running the internal amp in the phone and can result in an overly modulated signal.

So, I was looking around for leads to do what I want and found this:

Available in the US too. Added bonus is you could charge the phone as this thing has a usb port and will do in car calls.

Has anyone used one ? will the pausing of music work with the S3 if a call comes in ? anything similar ? or just a mini usb -> 3.5 plug for media sharing ?

mods: I thought a thread on in-car use could be a good idea, merge with another if relevant.
 
if you have the funds just buy a new radio for your car that has bluetooth streaming on it, thats what i have and besides minimal interruptions from an incoming email or text its great.
 
I posted in a car dock thread but thought to post here too.anyone know of a dock? with charging?anything? my DX may be and old pile but the moto dock is awesome.anything for this flagship phone that makes the car dept.worthy? Ebay has one ....$5.99 plus free ship.....come on that thing will have my phone in the footwell in no time!
 
Just to keep the thread updated..

I received the aircast today and it works fine with the phone, pairs up really easy and almost all functions work (take call, play/pause music, skip track). The only one I didn't get working is activating voice dialling- the aircast says it will activate voice dialling but the S3 didn't respond. I did wonder if it would enable S-Voice but it appears not - mind you I do have double tap on the home button disabled.
Audio quality is fine both on call and music.

Cheap way to use an aux in socket and get bluetooth calling.
 
So if my car has bluetooth built in I can wirelessly play music from the phone through my car speakers, on Pandora for example? I thought bluetooth worked just for making hands free calls using the car speakers...
 
if the stereo in your car supports media via wifi yes. Look in the specs for the head unit, the magic word is "A2DP" which is the standard for audio sharing. If it supports it, simply pair with it and then play music on the phone, this should get sent ot the head unit and played. I guess you may have to select the correct mode on the head unit for this to happen.

My car (2013 Hyundai Sonata GLS, without any options packages) has bluetooth built in. And I can play music from my phone (using TuneIn Pro, not Pandora, but the idea's the same I should think).

Moreover, if I'm also running Google Maps+ for GPS navigation, the music will automatically be interrupted for navigation directions. (Like, to tell me to "exit in 1/2 mile," or to "turn left onto Warwick Avenue.") All wirelessly, via bluetooth. It's a pretty neat capability, really.

Of course, it also permits me to hit the voice command button on the steering wheel, say "Call Veronica," and have the phone initiate a handfree phone call to Veronica (an entry stored on my phone), with output through the car's speakers. Just as you indicated bluetooth allowed. It's just that it's not limited solely to that.

Oh, this is with an HTC EVO 4G LTE, but I suspect the S3 (which ought to be shipped to me within the next day or two) will behave similarly.

Given that a base Hyundai Sonata, while a nice car (I'm quite happy with mine), isn't exactly an $80,000 Mercedes Benz, I would guess that this capability can be found in more than a few recent model cars, and that it'll probably be about as common as keyless entry within the next few years.
