Incessant Notifications!

Firmware: 2.1-Update1 I have one email account on my Droid and I receive only occasional texts. Nevertheless, my Droid constantly sounds off with the notification sound I have selected for email. I check and there's no new mail. Today, while traveling, it just kept it up as if I were receiving a new mail every 10 seconds or so. Any idea what the deal is? Thanks. jor
