Help Include SD card content in standard video folder

Oleros

Newbie
I have dlna connected my galaxy tab and xbox one and stream video files directly to the x1 media player. Problem is it only reads from stock media folders. Is it a way to get my sd video content included in the video folder without moving/copying?

What app are you using to play your content? I'm assuming Samsung Link (previously AllShare)?

Although I don't use DLNA it seems that pulling from an SD Card would be a pretty basic feature. It's possible that your Xbox One can't read the type of files you're flinging to it, for example this is support info from Motorola about sending from SD Card to TV using DLNA:
Some devices you are playing content with through DLNA might not support the content captured by the phone or tablet (such as a WMA audio file from the SDcard or a 3GPP video from the video camera). You computer or television might need a certain driver or codec to play that file. You may ultimately need to convert the format of that media file with another program so both devices can play the file properly.

If unable to play captured Video from your phone through your other DLNA device, you can try a workaround by changing the file extension of your phone's video files from 3GP to MP4, (example: video.3GP to video.MP4).

It could be an issue with Samsung Link and/or Samsung Link not playing nicely with your Xbox One. Here are three other apps I would consider trying that leverage DLNA:
Here is a quck video tutorial on accomplishing this with Avia, but note that it seems to get lower ratings than the other two solutions:

Complications with DLNA and other device to device streaming media solutions seem pretty common and I think it's a large reason why Chromecast became so popular.

Hi and thanks for your reply.
I have tried several of the ChromeCast apps like Avia, Localcast and Allcast. They are often unstable, lacks major functionality has poor performance (even 720p lags) and supports only the same formats as CC, i.e essentially mp4.
Your posted video shows how to stream "passively" to X1 but lately X1 has launced its own media player app
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qe28yty02SI. So I actually don't use any apps on server side. The X1 Media Player connects to my Galaxy tablet through DLNA but is hard wired to the video folder (or video category as it's called in Samsung's file manager app). Of course this folder is on the internal memory so not very useful for file storage. If I could find a way to either include files from the extrernal SD to the standard video folder or point the folder to my external SD this would work perfectly.

No one in this forum has had this issue? This goes for all streaming from an Android device where the receiving device/app is pre set to the standard media folders photo, video, music so there must be a workaround for coping with the minimal internal storage. .?

My suggestion, look specifically for in the Play Store for "DLNA server" and not go with Chromecast apps that have had DLNA added later.

Skifta used to do exactly what you want but they closed shop in mid 2014 and the app is gone.

I think that you're going to want to try some more of the server apps - that's the best I can suggest.
