Help included USB/charger cable is too short

I went on E-Bay and bought a number of n900 chargers (they come with nice long cables). That being said, all you should need is a USB extension cable. You can get one up to 10 meters long.

The data transfer will slow down with a longer cable,no?
 
Yes the charger cable is very short and I tried using my old USB extender cable but after connecting the extender the charging rate drops disgustingly low....it takes forever to charge up ..so I borrowed "stole" my sisters galaxy s2 charger...as those are pretty long........ So I suggest u get a galaxy s2 cable.....
 
Yup.... big phone - short cable..... at time, just wonder what goes thru engineers' brain? Don't they take motion study or customer experience into consideration?
