Help incoming text notifications

Just upgraded from S3 to S6. While texting before on S3, every time I received a reply during an ongoing text conversation, my text ring notification would sound. Now on the S6 it only sounds when I receive a text message. During a conversation, when I get a reply it arrives without a ring notification so unless I'm viewing the open conversation screen, I won't know if I received a reply.
How can I get my S6 to give me a sound notification every time a text arrives during a text conversation???

Check the notification settings of your message app. It may have an option to control this behaviour.

These days most message apps assume that if you have the app open and are in a conversation you don't need a notification for each message no matter how short the gap (and indeed many would find that annoying). If there is no such control you may have to try another message app (I know that Chomp has an option to choose the "in app" notification or disable it, for example).
