Help Increasing memory available

Peborgh

Newbie
My HTC Desire stopped syncing with Google Calendar and I now find that my available memory space internal is 5.77 Mb. I cannot delete too many of my apps so how do I get more space so that I can add more apps and have sync working again?

Many thanks,

peter

Suggestions:

Remove the apps you can. Move any that are movable and where you aren't using widgets to sd.

See which apps are using most data? App data (user and system apps) uses internal storage, so clearing sata where an app is being excessive can help. The Manage Applications menu can show you apps sorted by size.

If neither suffices, there are other things you can do but you'll need to root the phone first.

How do I move apps to the SD card? How do I know which app is suitable for move to SD card? I could pump the card to 16Gb. I believe an SD or microSD card is what I need.

Thanks,

peter

You move apps to SD using the "manage applications" menu. If the "move to sd" button for an app is greyed out, that means it isn't supported for that app.

Don't move apps which have widgets which you use, as the widgets will stop working the next time you reboot.

And yes, the card is microSD (everyone just calls them SD in phone forums).

Do note that not all apps can be moved, that only part of the app is moved, and that app data will remain internal.

Thanks.

Two things:

  • when I replace the microSD card, how do I copy what's on the old one to the new one.
  • Apps with widgets: what does that mean and/or can you give me examples? And of course how do I find out which app has/have a widget(s)?
