Help Incredibly slow download speeds over 3G (Orange UK)

Hi,

Since yesterday (possibly since updating to 4.1.2) my phone has been unbearably slow - just downloading a 1mb app now (QR code reader) and it's going to take maybe 2 hours...

I'm a bit worried since I am rather reliant on my phone for navigation etc etc, and we're off to London tomorrow and I need it to help get about, find our way to tube stations, see which ones are closed etc etc as well as having all of our tickets on there for shows and the hotel :(

Any ideas on what to try to get it up to speed again? I've contacted Orange and they said it's not a problem there end...

Thanks

Have u used the Speedtest app to see what kinda download speeds youre gettin mate? I downloaded a few updates from PlayStore today and they were mega slow so maybe its a google problem in UK. Im on 3
P.s, turning flight mode on and off sometimes makes the phone lock onto a stronger mast

Hello blizeH. It is possible that a recent update brought conflicts of running services into your device, depending usually on a few things such as whether or not you rebooted prior to and after the update, or if caches on certain apps/widgets had been cleared before hand.

There is no official instruction to perform those tasks when an update comes along, but we're finding out across many devices and carriers that it can help eliminate resource drain issues after the update has taken over the operating system.

Try going into the Application Manager and clearing caches on every app that has the "clear cache" button enabled (rather than greyed out). Also, if you're willing to start over on some apps, clear data as well.

Set all syncing apps and widgets to "manual" or "on demand" rather than at offered intervals; doing that will stop their background services from running all the time on the "countdown" to sync time; a big help in all this (apps such as weather/news/social networking/facebook/email/gmail, etc).

A reboot after these changes will help.

One last thing, if you have access to the device's recovery menu, go in there (via the button combination that brings that menu up) and navigate to the "wipe cache" selection and let that happen, freeing you cache partition for more current tasks.

Thanks so much guys! Just clearing the cache now (why do they put the option next to so many scary sounding things eh?) - fingers crossed

Lol that kinda stuff isnt meant to be messed with by the average user but since youre usin an android forum.. youre no longer the average user :)
Did u do a speedtest mate?

Thanks funky - didn't run a speed test after that, but didn't really need to since it actually worked! :) Thanks all
