Root Information Overload

flu13

Android Enthusiast
I've been largely absent from this forum for about 6 weeks. It started with a week-long training at work which kept me from keeping up. Then, a few days later, Mini-Flu 3.0 was born, and life has been utter chaos since. I have been trying to get caught up here, but there's just too much.

So I wondered if anyone would be willing to highlight anything new and exciting. Has anything amazing happened in that time? Great new apps I should know about? Great new roms? Great new accessories? If I can get a Reader's Digest version, I can just mark everything read and start clean.

Thanks in advance for tolerating my laziness. :)

Congrats on your new upgrade. :D

Are you still on PM 6.3?

A couple weeks ago, Nightly #150 introduced a new kernel with a much shorter boot time.

Google update has been giving some people problems where they can't download apps, o/w pretty boring here. :D

I'm still on the CM7 TEST that came out a while back. Boot time isn't a terribly big issue for me.

I will say, out of nowhere this weekend, I started experiencing SoD. It's happened twice in the last 72 hours. It happened shortly after installing a few new apps from the Amazon Appstore.

Make sure your wireless isn't set to stay on with screen off. Some people have issues if downloading and screen off.

I've only had it twice now.

It actually is set that way, but it's always been that way. Maybe I've just been lucky for the first few months.

I get SoD multiple times a day no matter which nightly I run. can you elaborate on the wireless settings I should change? Currently I have the wi-fi sleep policy to never sleep. If this is too much of a hijack I can post on its own.
Thanks!

Bummer, its so slow to reconnect to the access point once it turns off! As always thank you.

Mine only takes about 5 seconds to reconnnect on wake, is yours taking a lot longer than that? Or is it just one of those things where 5 seconds seems like a long time?

It takes about 45 seconds. Sometimes I actually have to go into wireless settings before it will even connect.

Yep, that'd be annoying.
Not sure which ROM you're running, I'm still back on nightly #150. Last I knew Colchiro was on 160-something, and his seems to be connecting well enough. Is it time for you to think about loading a new ROM?

Latest nightly cm7. I can live with it. I was in a rage about the SOD so this is much better. I suppose I could wipe everything and put on a new rom but I have spent so much time customizing the look of this thing...

Nightly #168 and #169 both had 5 stars in Rom Manager and I went with the one with the most downloads for my wife's NC, which for once had a full charge. :D

Had to update 20 apps in Market tho.

My Nook's sleepin' over with one of the girls from work. :D Sounds like she's willing to part with $200 for it, but we'll see on Monday. They're taking a trip next weekend so are excited to play games, watch movies and Twitter/Facebook. She has a POS smart phone... with about a 2" screen. She hates it.

I've got a HP Touchpad 32 GB coming in about a week... praying they can get GB going on that soon.

Oh, while I think of it, yes was running #165 and a coworker took it home last night and left it powered on, but not sure if he connected to his wireless... I think not. Anyway I had 91% sleep with it on all night and battery was in the high 80's. Didn't think that was too bad. His wife decided she wanted an iPad instead.
