Help Insane Data Usage?

Mofolepo

Lurker
I just received my Sprint bill and it shows that I have used 35GB of data in the previous month. In the 4 days since the start of my billing cycle, I have used 5GB of data.

I use JuiceDefender and do not really stream anything so I do not know how this is possible. When I had the HTC Evo 4G, I averaged about 3 to 5 GB a month.

How do I check what is using my data? I assume it is doing this at night because sometimes I wake up to a super hot phone. Ideas? Help?

There's an app called 3G Watchdog that monitors data usage and breaks down which apps have been uploading what. That is a huge amount of data, very odd, but luckily, we have unlimited data. Install the app, im curious whats causing this

Thanks for the tip on 3G Watchdog. I don't see where or how to get the data about which apps are using the data.

Crazy usage, I would like to kno whats juicing you like that, "cut back on the nightly streaming" lol kidding, but I'm way behind you at 12gb's I'd like to kno what our bills would run without sprints unltd?

Thanks for the tip. I'll try downloading that now. I know for a fact that I don't use anywhere close to that amount so I'm thinking that something is running in the background without my knowledge. I'll report back soon :)

I just checked my usage and I'm at 11.5 GB for just under 3 weeks. I am only on the Sprint data network for 4-5 hours per day, otherwise WIFI. I downloaded 3G Watchdog and the data usage so far today supports the above number. Unfortunately I cannot find in 3G Watchdog where it actually shows what is using the data.

So just out of curiosity I looked at mine and I am good, only 500 megs on 3G and 140 on 4G and that was only because I streamed Netflix for the kiddo's the other day in the car for a few hours. The rest of the time I'm on WIFI.

How long are you into your billing cycle?

I had to upgrade to 3G Watchdog Pro, but $3 later, I found the culprit. Apparently, the AP News widget is receiving a massive amount of data. After installing the Pro version for 5 minutes, that app had downloaded 10MB of data. I went into the settings and set the refresh to "None" and have been good since. The annoying thing about that wigdet is that I deleted it off my home screens since getting the phone and I assumed that it wasn't running in the background.
