install 1700 mhz frequency?

B"H

Hello everyone,

I just was wondering if it is possible to install on my android phone 1700 mhz frequency? it needs both 2100 and 1700 in order to get 3g speeds, and my phone only has 2100 at this point. Thanks for your help!

Currently, there is no way to add a radio frequency to a device. This is something that comes default on a device. In theory you could change the frequency, but at the price it would cost you (in tems of getting the frequency tuned just so) much more than it may be worth. The best suggestion that can be given is to buy a new device.

Radios are integrated into the motherboard. They are designed to only pick up on a set of possible frequencies. They're not like the FM radio you find in your car. The new Qualcomm RF360 Front End chips are suppose to solve this.

You never said what phone you had. You could get lucky with a firmware flash.

Not sure why he doesn't have 1700, though....AWS band is usually 1700/2100, like T-mobile. Seems bizarre he would have a single band phone....

Do we know what device it is? There are rather a lot of phones that don't have it, after all, so if it wasn't bought through the carrier it wouldn't be so surprising not to have that band.

I think that's what it is as well. I'd never heard of 1700MHz been used for 3G.

AFAIK 2100MHz, 1800MHz and 900MHz are the usual bands, which is what even the most basic crappy Chinese phones should have. There's sometimes 1900MHz and 850MHz depending on the country. There's many phones that don't have the North American bands.

T-Mobile US 3G/4G requires both 1700 and 2100 - one is used for upload, one for download. Except now T-Mobile has 'refarmed' most areas to also use 1900 (AT&T) mostly to attract iPhone users.
