Install different rom

Just got a Resurrection Remix update turn up on S3 phone notification. I downloaded it and phone said it couldn't open it. Checked in My Files (got to get EFS File Explorer installed ) and that said file was too big for the phone( 250+mb).
I am now in territory that I have no idea of what to do, where to go. The other S3 has just chirped that it too has a rom update. Never rains but it pours, lol.
Any ideas please.??
I have to paste these answers in Word, so I don't lose or forget them.

Try downloading onto PC and copying into SD and flash in recovery rather than the OTA?
Dirty flash should be fine for update (no need to wipe etc). but just check out the RR thread for your device on XDA to be sure

Hi,
Downloaded the updated rom to pc- tried getting Gapps to download but site can't be found. I used the mini marshmallow gapps with original RR rom instal. Didn't want all the google apps .
On XDA, it gave update instructions;

-UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS-
- Download the latest build of Resurrection Remix ROM
- Take a nandroid backup
- Flash ROM usingrecovery
- Flash Gapps
- Wipe cache
- Wipe dalvik cache
--FLASH SUPERSU 2.56 +(RECOMMENDED) from HERE
- Reboot
- Enjoy!

It looks as if a full rom install is about to go ahead-
I have a nandroid backup of 4.3 already on phone sd card- so no other backup needed ??
I have wiped first, then flashed rom and gapps- do you do it as said above, the other way ?? ( Also data and system) ??
Just about to download SuperSu, but will check if different from already installed version.

For updating ROM rather than flashing a whole new one you usually just need to wipe cache/dalvik (unless otherwise stated) no need to wipe data/system, because of this you get to keep all your apps, data, messages, everything.
As long as you have a working backup there it doesn't really matter if you take another, but you just have a more recent backup of the last working system if you do.

Both S3's do not now open when clicked on. The pc (Win 10) can find them, but not open to see Phone or Card icon.
My Note 4 is working ok, so no cable or pc trouble there then. Till this is sorted, I can't transfer new rom to sd card and use Odin.

Pc usb stuff has gone ping again. Not even seeing Note 4 now. SD card seems to be corrupted now as well, and my back up is on there- a San Disk one, will never buy another one of those again- the third one now that has gone bad.
I have Samsung Evo SD cards now- seem to do the trick ok. I have nandroid backup on pc of both S3's.
A bit concerned that my laptop can't see the phones either ???

Got the Resurrection Remix rom update on both phones now- the pc suddenly started to play ball, it goes like that every so often, lol..
Waiting now for an Android 6 rom for my Tab 2 now (7").
Will leave you all in peace for a while, lol. :D
