Install Messenger?

I got a notification supposedly from Facebook - "You have 1 unread conversation. Install Messenger to read it." This is a friend who usually texts, emails, or calls. I haven't run into this. Is Messenger a part of Facebook...is it legit?

its legit.......its an app called facebook messenger. its in the play store.

Yes, Facebook has Facebook app as well as Facebook Messenger app. They are all available on Google Play Store.

Thanks. After I read the first reply, I clicked Install, didn't even have to go to Play Store. I asked my friend earlier if he sent anything by Facebook Messenger; he later texted me "No". This is kinda weird

its one reason why i'm no longer on FB. its a ploy they use to get you to use FB messenger....totally lame

And is the case with everything Facebook, they give away nothing for free. You are the product.

I am also switching to Telegram lately, though I still have FB messenger because some of my friends and important contacts cannot give it up. But still, I encourage them to let go of FB messenger completely.
