Root Install the .211 ICS leak AND keep ability to fastboot back to GB

Ok ive fastbooted back, did ota to. 181 then rooted, downloaded needed apps, did rootkeeper backup sideloaded .79 tryed to restore root via root keeper with no success. Wth. Cant seem to get it. Tryed same proccess on my girls phone, same outcome. Wtf. I can live with this version for awhile but looking forward to. 211.

Any ideas?
Bugly i tried the su update. Btw.
 
Wow, you guys are freaking me out a little lol. My maxx will be here tomorrow and I was gonna use this method after rooting it . This is waaay different than my thunderbolt's methods!
 
Dont worry digdug im the only one that has found a problem on this. So dont take any advice from me about this until i get it right. Everyone else has no problems. Lol
 
Thanks kelmar. I figured out my mistake. I protected root, but never temp unrooted. Ive never used rootkeeper brfore so unfamiliar with its directions . Ill do over tonight. Cant wait.
 
Glad to be back on a phone with an active mod to help if necessary!

I've tried to help others on my past devices. But on this one, Im pretty much lost lol. Would it be possible to root tonight and stay stock until official ics is available and use voodoo to protect root take update then restore root to ics?

Ok thanks kelmar, and bugly i rolled back my girls phone started process over and included temp unroot, and and restore before .79 update. Worked perfectly.

Unfortunately im away from pc to continue the .211 update.

lol, just remember that just because I'm a mod doesn't mean I'm an expert ;)

In theory, yes, but until it's officially released we are just guessing. Just don't make any changes with root because that's what causes updates to fail.

Glad to hear the part that was causing you problems got sorted out.
 
Thanks again kelmar it looks as if i womt be home until 9:30 pm. My thumb's itching so i know om on the right path to..211.
 
If you are on 79 and have done Unstick you could, in reality, do it now without the PC... but of course if something were to go wrong you would hate that you did it away from a computer. :p
 
Being away from pc is only part of the problem, its the fact that i started over, and havent done the unstick yet during this go at it.

Thats my girls phone.
Mines still stuck at .79 without root access.

On road home now. Should have both phones running..211 within the hour. `…`
 
So my question to all of this then is, can I fastboot back to GB from the 211 leak? I thought all the other leaks after 79 didn't allow that.

I'm just wondering if I should forgo leak 79 and go to 211 instead? I haven't done any of this yet, so I was going to do 79 first just so I could go back to GB if needed.

If you go straight to .211 you can't Fastboot back. The reason that this works is because Hashcode (a developer) took everything and made it into a ROM that can be flashed.

Sure, you can always go straight to .211 but it's possible you may be off of the upgrade path forever (not knowing what will change once ICS is officially released).

Just like rooting (which is why this is posted in ATR section) it has risks and should not be jumped into. :)
 
Has anyone tried fastbooting using matts utility? If official Ics is as close as rumoured, ill answer that question soon enough.

Plus how much different could official ics be from. 211?
 
Never used the utility tbh, but should work fine.

Rumors (keeping in mind that that's all they are) is that .211 will be the OTA. If that's really the case then no change at all.
 
Couple things,
1. After fastbooting back to .181 i loose 4g forever no matter how strong the dignal or what settings say.
2. Matts utility is the only way ive used to fb back to..173, .181. So idk why you say it doesnt work.
3. To install. 211 i followed this thread to the letter. Works flawlessly. I just went through thr process just now. I fastbooted back to catch ota that i believed was on its way. Then i got tired of not having 4g so when its confirmed ota in the area ill fb back then.

Oh i get it rsd is recommended way.

This thread works do no need to use other methods. ; )
