Installed aplication and data

Hello,

I am using Galaxy Tab with adroid 2.2 and I am wonderingthe following

1. Where the installed programs/ application stored? (I know i could view it on task manager, but iwant to see on the rom itself, something like on windows program files)
I look on find it on my files, but find it.

2. Where did the insttaller / data files / .apk stored after i download thru market and installed on the system? Does it automatically deleted?if so, can i prevent it?

Also, is there a way to access the core system of the device? I know I can access the storage where I can create folder, etc. but I want also to access the root.

eg.

/etc
/var
/tmp

Without rooting my only advice is to use a program like AndExplorer to see what is on your device.
