Installing 2.29.405.5 and backing up

Hi All

Debranded Vodafone Desire with 2.29.405.2 at present.

I am thinking of taking the plunge, and installing the new RUU with my goldcard. This will wipe the phone, and so being technically interested, but not having as much knowledge as I would wish on how to do these things (I have followed excellent guides in the past) I would appreciate some help on the following:

1. I have the RUU from shippedroms, but can't remember the way to apply this. Can someone remind me or link to a guide for a beginner?
Is this method now foolproof, and fully working?

2. I wish to preserve my phone settings, and as far as I can see, there are only two options in the market - MyBackupPro and Titanium. Which is best for returning my phone to it's previous state quickly, I have used the free trial of the former, and I'm not sure if I can use the latter as I have never rooted?

Happy to pay for this app, especially if it looks like no more OTA updates for debranded phones!

Many thanks in advance.

1. Connect phone (with gold card inside) to PC. Select HTC Sync. Make sure HTC Sync on the PC shows connected. Run RUU

2. I don't bother backing up so can't comment

Thanks for the quick reply EddyOS - Can anyone else comment on the best way to backup the phone?

Only backup options I have found are Lookout and Wavesecure - these are security apps and backup pics, texts and phonebook etc, but not your actual progress on games such as angry birds etc...interested to hear if any app does this without being rooted.

So would I!

Have you not used Mybackup Pro? This is my default option, but wondered if there was anything else out there.
The iPhone and iTunes (for their many faults) do this aspect much better.

i did this the other day using mybackup (free one) i backed every thing up but when i restored i only restored apps, texts/mms, call log, homesreen, settings, alarms and dictionary as all the other stuff like pics and music are on the sd card already and my contacts are all in outlook so i just a re-sync and job done. what i did have to do is set up how notifications work and alarm tones etc oh and auto sync needs setting back up too

there were a few othe minor things i had to rework for widgets i use but nothing major.

im debranded orange running 2.29.405.5, ran the ruu as described above with gold card in

If that is all the the app restores, then ill keep my lookout account as it does the pics, texts, contacts (although mine are all google contacts), not fussed about call logs and widgets etc =- easy to redo - and apps are easy, esp if app brain sync is working correctly.

thats all i decided to restore, i could of done pics, music etc but as it was already on the sd card i chose not to to avoid duplicates.

here are a list of things you can back up and restore....
contacts
call log
bookmarks
sms
mms
system settings
Android home
alarms
dictionary
calender
music playlist
Apps
Photos

this was with the free edition so the pay one may do more

Just wanted to let people know that all went well with the RUU - phone now seems a little bit snappier, but not really any other features to report.

Bought MyBackupPro, and seemed to do the job. Shame it de-linked all of my contacts though, needed to sort that out again. Took about an hour in total to be back as before.

Good luck if trying this out!
