Help Installing a kernel

Lurker
Hello, I have a ZTE Force, and I am trying to install a custom kernel. I want to know if ADB is required, and if a custom recovery is required. Also, would it work if I were to go to system/lib/modules and replace the .ko file with the new .KO file? Or would I have to flash it through CWM?

I normally flash kernels through recovery, but it depends on what form you have it in: if it's a zip with an installer script in then it's intended to be installed through recovery, if its a boot.img file then they will expect you to use fastboot to flash it.

I'm not familiar with ZTEs, but I'd be doubtful that manually replacing a file is enough. But whatever you do, take a nandroid backup before you start, because if this goes wrong for whatever reason you want to be able to get the phone working again easily.
