Help Installing a micro sd card

Hi,
I have a GalaxyTabA 9.7. I've taken a fair number of photos with it and now I'm getting that message about there being no space left. I've bought a 64gb micro sd card, but before I install it I have a few questions.
First, I want to make sure I don't lose the photos and a few videos I have saved on the tablet. Do I need to format this card, or anything else, or will all the photos automatically move to the sd card? Any advice for this total novice with tablets would be very much appreciated.
Thank you,
Jennifer

Hi, Jennifer, and welcome to Android Forums!

Nothing will automatically move. You will have to manually move everything over. I do NOT recommend using the move function: rather, copy your images to the SD card in smaller batches and make SURE they're all okay on the SD card before you delete the ones in internal memory. No format is necessary. This would be a perfect time to back up your photos to a PC before starting the process... memory chips DO fail, and you are well advised to back everything up regularly.

Also make sure your camera app knows to save to the SD card going forward, or it will continue to try and save to internal memory.

Also, before beginning make SURE your SD card is legit... there are a lot of counterfeits out there. Use an app called SD Insight to verify the card before starting this process.

It's great to have you here! :)

Thanks so much! I got two cards...one at Costco and one from Amazon, so not too worried about them, but I'll check nevertheless. And I know I'd better back things up. I don't want all of the photos, but some are irreplaceable. Most of the ones I really want went also to Facebook and are on my computer, but I can see I'd better slow down and do this right.

Yes, I'm quite sure they're real...Amazon Prime and Costco...I about broke my arm getting into the ridiculous packaging they place around those things!! SanDisk Ultra 64gb microSD.
