Installing apk?

I just got rid of my Galaxy Nexus and bought the Note 3. LOVE this thing!!! Only had it for a couple of days now and just trying to get it all set up

Got a question. One of the apps I liked on the old phone was Ad Block. Got it a long time ago off Google Play. Well, as I'm sure many of you already know (I didn't) is that Google now longer allows ad blocking apps on their site. I did find a site that still has the app and you can download it for free. Only problem for me is that I have no clue how to install an apk. All that apps I have ever had were off Google Play and they installed automatically.

Can someone help me with this?

Thanks

Lee

Settings, security, Unknown sources [ x ]

Download the file, then run it. Been a while since I did this, so I'll have to leave that part of it vague.

Thanks for the quick reply, j. From experience with my last phone I selected the option to allow downloads from unknown sources as one of my setup procedures. That gets the app to me but I still have no clue how to install it.

Just click on it to open the file and it should then automatically install.

Glad you got it fixed. What I want to know is does Ad Block still actually work? Does it block any ads? I hate it since Google has started pushing ads in everything now...especially all of the free apps.

Just installed it and tested. It does not block Google's ad bars in the free apps.

Update: Well, maybe it did...I set up the proxy stuff like it suggested and tried one app and I didn't see the Google ad banner. Maybe it is working...more testing needed.

Hey dark, Yeah mine works like a charm now that I have it setup correctly. Those few days without it almost made me nuts. I'd gotten used to not having any ads with my old phone. Per blocking all ads - no. Justing throwing out a figure I'd say 90%. I read something about how this works and there are a few types of ads it can't block but it gets most of them and I'm a happy guy.:D

I think that's a hoot that Google makes it's money selling ads and for months the Play store had an app that blocks them. LOL Bet they had a hard time explaining that to their customers. No wonder they pulled Ad Block.
