Installing apps via browser

I find it very useful to search for apps on the Android Market in my browser. When I click in my browser (Google Chrome) on "install app", a popup appears which says "This app will be downloaded to your device shortly."

Previous time, I saw the installation on my phone happen literally seconds later. Currently it doesn't do this. What am I doing wrong? I have my phone powered on, display active/unlocked, right next to me.

Note: opening the Android Market app on my phone doesn't do anything, i.e. it doesn't find the apps I just selected in my browser.

(Running Android 2.3.3 on a Samsung Gio)
 
Update: 15 minutes later, the apps were installed on my phone. What exactly triggers the phone to check the Android market and see what I clicked there?

If you logged in at your Market Google account on PC, Market knows your phone and downloads and install the app on it.

Yes, I know -- my question is: why is there a 15-minute wait-time, when previously the apps would install immediately?
 
Sometimes the same with apps I installed directly frome phone market.

Maybe a server problem ... only Google knows ;)

Always happens instantly for me and browsing market from a PC is the only way to fly now post-gray-market era.

Do you have data + autosync on and nothing unchecked in your google sync settings?
 
If you had good internet connectivity, I'd blame the hamsters at the google server room. If not, I blame your internet connection.

But it's probably that the hamsters needed food.
 
I think I got it. The phone is on a corporate WiFi with a firewall. When I switched off WiFi and kept the phone unlocked, on 3G, the download started immediately after I clicked the "Install" button on the Android market in my browser.
