I just installed CoPilot Live Premium for my EVO 4G and there are a couple things that I think people should know before they try to install.
The installation instructions are poorly written and even incorrect. The URL for the app was incorrect on the page I saw. People who are not familiar with smartphones will not recognize what to do with the image printed in the Quickstart Setup. Get a Barcode reader app. Many are free on the Android Marketplace; I chose Barcode Scanner from the ZXing Team (it worked flawlessly and even read the image off my monitor instead of a piece of paper), but I admit I picked it because it was at the top of the list. Scanning the image started the download immediately.
When I tapped the Continue button after re-sizing the circle to match the penny, it took an hour and 20 minutes (approximately) to get to the next step, so connect the charger. During this time, the EVO was still operating (clock display and Status Notification), but was non-responsive to button presses, swipes, press-and-hold operations and even the Power button.
At first, I thought it was in an infinite loop, so I removed the battery. When I re-started CoPilot, it went immediately to the Re-size Penny screen and continuing from there got me the same apparent lockup. It was only because I was busy doing something else that I let the EVO continue running the installation program for so long and figured out that it was just time-consuming.
The North American map covers the 50 States in detail, but only highways for Canada and Mexico. I only paid for USA maps, so even though I could download a map for Canada, I only see city centers and some POI. The North American map database took about an hour to download via the WiFi link. If you have can figure out how to do it, you might get better speed by downloading the database to your PC and loading it via the USB cable.
