Root Installing Custom Roms...

I have tried two custome ROMs through ROM Manager and they install but then I get a screen that says first boot and may take a wile! Is 30 minutes normal? I keep removing the batry and just going back to the stack rom I backedup... ?
Anyone know what I might be doing wrong?
 
What ROM's are you trying to install? You may need to run Unrevoked Forever to set your phone from s-on to s-off. You are rooted, first and foremost, correct??
 
Do you mean 30 minutes of sitting on the boot animation? That would be too long, but it could take 30 minutes from start to finish(backing up current rom, wiping data, then loading rom) make sure you are wiping data. But some people have been reporting issues with rom manager lately, try loading directly from clockwork recovery.
