Help Installing Non-AT&T OS

I have the Backflip for ATT but really want to get rid of the ATT aps. A friend of mine that works at Motorola said I can flash a new OS on it from another country like Canada and I wont have the ATT apps but my phone will still fully work.

Can I download one of these OS's and install them to do this? If I can how do you install one of these OS's?

There is a very long answer that I will not go into since this has been asked in different forms many time. So the simple answer is currently that is not possible. You have to have root access, as of right now, we do not have root access on the phone.
