Root Installing Voodooo

Hello,

I actually do not want to root my phone, but I thought this would be the appropriate forum for this. Anyways, I want to install Voodoo. I know this can be done with Odin. I have everything ready, but will installing the Voodoo kernel erase everything on my phone? I don't really know how this works....I just want to get Voodoo onto my phone. Thanks for the help, and sorry for being such a noob.

You are going to have to root in order to flash a custom kernel, because you will need to a custom recovery to accomplish this.

Actually I just proceeded with the Odin route. Everything was okay, but now the phone will not reboot. It keeps flashing the "battery charging" screen. What should I do at this point?

I followed these steps: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BpoZycEkNHDr28bkUb1KdJy2xdQ7ZDowpHVMGpXheGc/edit?pli=1#heading=h.wxoh8t-o4kkuo

The phone just doesn't want to reboot and begin the conversions.

I want to add that I unchecked F. Reset Time in Odin because I saw a couple of videos that demanded that be unchecked...I don't know if that is what is causing this.

Okay, I just need to recover from this now.

I unplugged the charging cable, now the battery screen is gone.

It is now flashing the Samsung startup screen followed by A Galaxy-S screen that says GT-I9000 with Samsung on the bottom.

It is cycling between these two. What should I do at this point?

I really appreciate the help.

What exactly does Voodoo do? Looks to me like it is for people who load music on their phone & listen through headphones...is that right? Is there more too it than than?

Because if that's all there is to it then I want to ditch this from my phone.

From what I've read, it unleashes the true potential of the phone in terms of sound. It also optimizes the file system which will increase the speed of the phone.

Thank you. I will lose all data correct? I do have my apps on AppBrain, and photos/vids backed up though.

Or heck...maybe I should root the phone...I'm just worried about warranty etc.

Do you have insurance on your phone? If so then you don't have warranty issues. Give your phone a bath...it's covered. $100 gets you another one.

yes data restore really isnt an option with what happened to your phone, also by using voodoo and installing a custom kernel youve already voided your warranty so thats not to much of an issue now ;P

Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

download this and throw it in odin flash it with only reboot option checked and youll be back on stock di18, feel free to update to ec05

if you want to use a custom rom/kernel that supports voodoo sound follow this:

download a custom rom and put it on your sd card (i personally recommend syndicate frozen 1.1.0 :) )

go into settings > applications > development and enable usb debugging

run the one click root found here [MOD][One Click Root] Clockwork Mod version 3.0.0.5/6 - UPDATED FOR EB13! - xda-developers

power off the phone and hold vol down camera and power til you boot into cwm3, it will convert you to ext4. then feel free to install from sd card the rom you put on your sdcard

bam you will be on ec05 with voodoo sound (assuming you picked a kernel that had it)

Ok sweet. I've been following the recent video tutorials here on the forums. I was able to Odin back to EC05 and everything was still there. I rooted and then installed Titanium.

I backed up all apps/data, and am now in the process of flashing Syndicate. I'm pretty excited, haha.

So how does the warranty not matter? I'm just wondering how to explain this to my mom (who bought the phone).

Dang, these apps keep force closing upon booting the phone. They keep force closing over and over again:

Google Services Framework

Email

Acore

load up in recovery and wipe data, sometimes teh script gets wonky and doesnt do a full wipe, its a known problem for cwm
