Help Instant GMail Notifications

I can't get GMail notifications sent to my phone. I have the GMAil accounted synced and so on but if I want to check my GMail, I have to physically go in and refresh the email to see anything new emails. Cannot figure this one out...

I have the same problem - have just bought the Galaxy s3 and a new user - can anyone help??
