I'm trying to develop an app in android studio that I could use for very simple instant messaging. I have heard about sinch & parse, and google cloud messaging, but I am confused. I plan on porting it to ios. and then I would like users on the ios app to be able to message users on the android app. I can't find anything on this-is it possible? could someone point me in the right direction? thank you.

I think you'll be needed a webservice that will be mediator between users, so user1 will send to the server and user2 will get it from the server
interesting. think you could give me an example ? i dont know how to go about finding/creating that

It's a whole project not an example. Webservices can be written on different platforms but i preffer .NET. Webservice is like a website but it don't have user interface and data exchange going through JSON or XML. Also you'll be need database to store messages. Here is couple links that may be usefull.
