Instructions to upgrade Swype

Android Enthusiast
1. Under Settings - Language & Keyboard- Select Input Method Change the current input method to Android or Samsung keyboard

2. Make a backup and delete the following files
/system/app/Swype.apk
/system/app/swype.odex
/system/lib/libSwypeCore.so
/data/data/com.swype.xxx folder
/data/dalvik-cache/system@app@swype.android.inputmethod-1.apk@classes.dex
(the easiest method for me was to long click each file and choose ZIP which puts a compressed copy of the file in /sdcard/speedsoftware/zip then long click and choose delete)

3. Reboot

6. Download an HVGA compatible version from various forums and file sharing sites

7. Under Settings - Language & Keyboard- Select Input Method click Swype Settings then go back to Select Input Method and choose Swype

If you dont like the version you installed it can be uninstalled using Manage Applications under settings. If you install it and it doesnt let you enter Swype words (flashing blue keyboard) the version probably doesnt like what model is specified in your build.prop.
I got this method from a thread on XDA helping others to install the beta

I removed the instructions on how to upgrade to Swype Beta 3.6.x since the new word box takes up so much of the screen you cant read your text messages. There is also a bug that prevents you from licensing the software properly.
