Android Question

First off, I am sure this has been asked 1,000 times so I apologize, but I am still unable to find a suitable solution for me.

I have a LG Optimus F3, which I have rooted. Looking at Setting > Storage, it reports that my Total Space is 1.24 gb of which 630 mb are available. Yet, when I try to install an app, I am getting an "Insufficient storage available" error. Now the download seems to work fine. The error occurs once the download has finished and the installation process commences.

I am using Link2SD and moving apps over as they successfully install. It is also very hit-or-miss as some apps install, and some don't. For example, I purchased the Link2SD Plus upgrade and cannot get the thing to install.

Can anybody provide any suggestions as to how to fix this? Or provide an explanation as to why it is reporting insufficient storage when about half of the available internal space is free?

Thanks in advance

Install this simple little app called Storage Truth. It's very small and will install in very limited space. It will tell you how much space you actually have left for installing apps:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sa.storagetruth

To make space you can:

Delete texts or emails. If you have a lot saved on the phone, this can help.
Delete or move photos, videos, documents, etc.
Uninstall app updates.
Uninstall apps.
Clear cache files. However, this will only make space temporarily as cache files will rebuild over time. Also, while clearing cache files won't hurt anything, they're there to speed up operation and really should be left alone.

Moving apps to the SD card usually doesn't have too much effect.

This is the OP, I failed to log in when I posted the question. As to the suggestion that I install StorageTruth, I tried but was unable to install due to the insufficient storage error.

Storage Truth is very small, so if it's too large you really are out of space. Since you're rooted you must have a terminal app installed.

Open a terminal and type:
df
Hit enter.
In the output look at the line beginning with:
/data

That line tells you how much space for apps you stared with and how much space you have left. Can't be much.

I did as you suggested, and here is the output I received . . .

/data Size - 1.24G Used - 689.46M Free - 580.49M Blksize - 4096
/data/sdext2 Size - 3.46G Used - 1.30G Free - 2.16G Blksize - 1024

Does this info lead you to any ideas?

I wiped the cache as instructed, but that had no effect. Just to confuse matters even more, I tried to install 2 random games from the Play Store. One was like 26 mb and the other was 18mb. Both installed fine.

So then I retried Storage Truth, no go - insufficient storage. Then I tried an APK I downloaded, InsuFixer (suggested elsewhere on the web), but that would not install either. Then I tried uninstalling a working app (Plex) and re-installing it, but that failed too. I don't even know what else to try.

Any other ideas are welcome. My only remaining idea is to head for the beer in the refrigerator. Android drives me to drink.

Thanks for the effort, but that did not fix the problem. I think I am going to wave the white flag for now and live to fight another day. Thanks again.
