Root "Insufficient Storage" with Google Search Update on MikG v3.X

Hi Everyone...

I am rooted running MikG 3.x ROM on my phone. Have had this setup for a while...been stable with few quirks but fine.

Recently I've had trouble updating two apps...Swype with Dragon and Google Search receiving an "insufficient storage" message during the attempt.

Here's my Titanium Overview storage info:

System ROM: 1.28 GB (383 MB free)
Internal: 2.27 GB (251 MB free)
Media: 2.14 GB (849 MB free)
Ext. SD Card: 32.0 GB (1.32 GB free)

Swype is about 17MB and I think Google Search might be a little bit bigger.

I was able to install Swype by UNINSTALLING first with Titanium and then reinstalling. I had the most success pushing the install from the Play store rather than through my phone.

QUESTIONS...

First, what is causing this and how can I avoid it in the future?? Since I'm rooted and have Apps2SD running in the ROM I should (and do not) have a "space issue"??

Secondly, I was considering uninstalling Google Search and then reinstalling HOWEVER it is a System App and I didn't quite want to screw around uninstalling that if I didn't have to...

Thanks!!

Updates download to internal storage, then install. You have 251MB free, and that's not a lot. Small phones mean fewer apps.

I can likely free up some of that internal space uninstalling some unused apps. However, with 251 MB storage (might actually be more than that in total with my Apps2SD with the ROM installing the apps on SD card and not the internal space) why the difficulty with installing an app only 1/10th that space??

Thanks!

You've probably got two or three hundred MB of app caches right now.

You can clear those from settings, storage.

When I get that low, I can't install anything else either.

Why? :dontknow: But it's like that.

Hey EarlyMon...

AMAZING that I've never ever LOOKED at that Settings

Could be version differences, here's mine -

But, later versions may not be that way.

No matter. :)

Use only the app cache cleaner out of that bad boy.

You may be in a catch 22 - you may not have space to install that without uninstalling something first - or clearing some caches the slow way, through app management first.

Nope...don't have that! Looks handy though!

Was thinking the same thing...not even sure I can install "Clean Master" at this point!! :D:D;)

THANKS!

Update...

So I downloaded the cache cleaner you suggested (I had room!!:D) and cleared out some cache files it found. Unloaded about 50MB...not bad.

Tried to update Google Search (18MB I think)...still NO GO!!

I then looked through my apps and uninstalled my biggest bad boy...Google Chrome Browser. Might have been about 28MB ish. Then tried to update Google Search..it worked!!

I then said to myself "No WAY I'm gonna be able to get Chrome to reload." I didn't go the Titanium re-install route...wanted to challenge myself I guess :D:D...and tried to download from the Play store. Well THAT worked too!

So, I'm updated but not sure why everything "loosened up"....?? I still need to clear out some (cr)apps I'm not using though :D;)

THANKS!!:)
