Help Intercept locking up and shutting down?

Hi, I bought the intercept on black friday and I think I like it, but am not 100% sure. It is on virgin mobile, but I have not activated it yet since my old phone is prepaid too and want to use up the $$ before I activate. Here are my problems:

1) I can access the marketplace, but cannot download anything. Is this because I have not activated the phone yet?

2) About once a day the phone becomes unresponsive (like when I want to check the time). It appears to be off, but nothing happens when I press the power button. The only way to fix it is to take out the battery and then turn back on. Does this happen to anyone else/ is there any fix?

yes the locking up has happened to me and my wife. only thing i found out that works for us is deleting apps that we dont use. i had alot of apps and it seemed when i got rid of the ones that i didnt use all the time my phone stopped locking up and shutting down.
 
If you connect the phone via wifi and have a valid gmail account set up for sync, you should be able to access the market. Hopefully, someone else can help you with the lockup issue.
