Interesting battery discharge pattern

Hello!

I have been having an interesting problem in the past few days that I couldn't find a solution to. I'm posting this in the hopes that anyone has experienced this behavior before and found a solution that doesn't involve getting the phone in service.

The culprit is a 3 week old Samsung Galaxy Chat (nifty little phone) running Android 4.0. For the first two and a half weeks it's been running like a charm, with a battery life of ~1.5 days. My charging behavior is "plug it in when it says so".

However, for the last three charges, I experienced the following behavior: with the phone at about 30-35% charge, I got a call (interesting, from the same person :P). Sometime during the call, the battery starts discharging at a rate of 0.3%/second. Needless to say, it shuts down fairly quickly afterwards and won't reboot until plugged in.

After the last time this happened, I plugged it in for ~25 minutes and got the battery to 20%. I could use the phone normally, made at least 3 calls and received just as many, without it discharging.

I would be interested if this could be a software error (e.g. in the battery status reading, or maybe the kernel or some app doing weird stuff) or if it's a hardware problem. I would like to avoid the service as much as possible. Has anyone had this problem before?

I uploaded an image to tinypic[dot]com/r/110hxn8/6
Sorry for dodging the newbie link restriction.
Thank you.

First off welcome to the forums Rimio!

Sounds like just a weird battery issue. You could try hard rebooting the battery by removing it and reinserting it...

Otherwise, you could always try a new charger, or new battery.

Lastly, might want to back up all your data and try a factory reset.

Hope this helps and thanks for joining! :D

Back with a status update. After a "battery reboot" suggested by DigitalController and an OS update it seems the problem does not reproduce anymore. Fingers crossed things will stay that way!

Thank you for your help!
