Root Interesting Development in the Wireless Tether area?

Droid Bionic wireless tether reverse engineering - Page 4 - xda-developers

I'm not an ubergeek, so a lot of that is above my pay grade, but am I correct in saying that they may have figured the issue out? If so, how easy would that be for your non-developer end user to implement?

Also, I imagine I would wait at least one billing cycle before I tried it, just to make sure no one got any rude shocks in their bill...

I'm not really sure, the thread seems to have stalled a bit. Does anyone know if it works consistently? I may just contact the guy who claimed to get it going over there and ask him what he did.

If you download the latest version of WiFi Tether and change the "Device Profile" to Motorola Targa, it works. Tried it with my laptop and Flyer. No need to do any crazy hacks.

Hrm. Where does one change the profile? In the Wifi app itself, the only profiles available for Motorola are Droid2 and DroidX. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

I am assuming you downloaded the "beta 6" version and that is the reason you are not seeing the Motorola Targa profile. If you click on the download tab, you will see a "pre103 experimental" version. Download that file and you will be able to change to the Motorola Targa profile. I just tested it 5 minutes ago and it works for me.

Is there anyway for VZW to track this? I know some of the previous hacks were iffy on this. When I activate it I get the hotspot icon in my notification bar a long with the icon for the wifi app itself. is this safe to use?

Not to sure. Use at your own risk. I have read a few things lately that if you use less than 5 gb a month verizon won't even look at your account. My advice if you want to use it and can wait, give it a month or 2 and see what happens to those that are using it now.

My way of looking at it is this; my usage rate is stable. I use the same amount of data whether I am tethered via USB or wireless, and that level is pretty low. So, nothing should stand out from a data usage perspective. IMO, the people who are going to get whacked are the ones using mad pipe.
