I was browsing the moto droid forums and reading this topic

and came up with a fun idea

15 minutes is not enough time to determine whether the app will be useful or work for me over one or more years.

I am perfectly willing to pay for a product that is useful (even if only for a month or so). But I'm not willing to pay for a 'surprise bag' never knowing whether it is going to work for me or not. And I can't tell that in 15 minutes.

that whole surprise bag thing just gave me an awesome idea. thats wholely irrelevant to this post.

Google should have a secret App of the day type of deal where every day (or week) google chooses a top rated app (must be 4 stars with over 50k downloads) thats worth 1$ or more from a category. on the market homepage has in the headline "mystery app" all you know about the app is the category (game app, news, widget etc) no refund policy at all etc.

I think it might work.. but probably not in such a big way. That being said I would never purchase it or I would always look it up online to see what the app was, cause you know there would quickly be a thread on forums about what the app was.

I agree id probably look it up too but it would still be fun, and theres bound to be plenty of people that purchase it just for the "fun" factor. Plus it would be cool to get think office for a dollar or something like that,

Ya exactly. If it caught on too, google could make a good amount of money charging developers to be picked. Assuming its a big name developer that can handle the cost.

have like a code string that dev's have to incorporate into their app that allows it to be entered into the "pool" of chosen apps once it meets specific criteria. this way the devs are giving google consent by adding the string.
