Internal memory full!

No phone is going to let you run an infinite number of apps at all times without getting slow. None.

If you have lots of apps installed, and they are working in the background, your phone will get slower. What part of this don't you get?

Probably because you keep repeating and asking what is basically the same question over and over again in this thread?

Your phone has a limited amount of space. There is no magic way to increase that. All options have trade offs.

The easiest, simplest answer we can give you is "Move some of the apps to the SD card, and if you still need more space - delete things you don't use."

As WW said, you might want to post questions about custom ROMS in another place (at least a new thread with a clear subject title). You'll get a better response.

1. Have you never used an iphone? just sayin.
2. ofc i understand that apps run in the background... and i also check regulary what apps that runs in the background
3.Wouldn't you ask the same question untill u got the answer you were looking for? -.-
4. Phone has a limited amount of space, but to make a smartphone with that little space?
5. I don't even bother answering.

thank you ironass! :)

1. Have you never used an iphone? just sayin.

No, I haven't. However, my understanding is that iPhone doesn't allow true multitasking like Android. So you wouldn't have to worry about having lots of apps or widgets in the background.

So you should know how much free RAM is available. If your RAM is all being used, your phone will be slow.

If your phone is slow and there is plenty of free RAM, there is another issue. E.g., a processor-intensive app is running (I sometimes get a lag from weather animations, for example). Or, you are running an app off your SD card, and your SD card is a slow speed memory card, and the system cannot read the data from the card fast enough.

This is why I prefer NOT to move my most used apps to the SD card, just in case.

3.Wouldn't you ask the same question untill u got the answer you were looking for? -.-

You've received lots of answers. What answer is it you are looking for? I'd be happy to provide it to you if I know what "answer" you want but haven't received.

4. Phone has a limited amount of space, but to make a smartphone with that little space?

It has 1/2 GB total. Most of that is used by the system and pre-installed software. I recall having about 70 MB to play with when I first got the phone.

Now, I have somewhere around 55 apps that I have downloaded and installed. I just did a quick count. I have moved 8 to the SD card, but there are many more I could move if I wanted to. I still have 18+ MB of internal memory.

I figure I should be able to get around 100 apps installed (assuming the average size is about the same as what I've added so far) before I start to have problems.

That said, I'm not sure there would be 10 more apps I could install and use at least once a month. Everything I need is on here.

There is plenty of space there for what most people need. Perhaps your expectations or storage requirements are a bit unrealistic????

That said, there are some apps that use a TON of memory. I removed the Firefox beta browser because it wanted something like 40MB all by itself.

thank you ironass! :)

You are welcome. Stop looking at my ass though. It makes me uncomfortable.

If you're running Titanium backup, then you must be rooted. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Firerat Partition mod. I did it on my Hero and went from 170ish MB after a wipe and ROM install to 330ish MB. I've got an Evo now and I went from 350ish MB after a clean ROM install to 625ish MB

It's a night and day difference in usability. I avoid apps2sd like the plague because my SD card became corrupted a couple of times due to a bad unmount when unplugging from a PC. I had to reformat the card and that would have caused all sorts of issues with any apps moved to the SD card.

OP. Are you rooted? I may have missed that in skimming this thread. If you are, try Move2SD Enabler (root only) - Android app on AppBrain (I'm trying the share feature from within Appbrain, so I'm hoping it works). It's called Move2SD, and it'll FORCE apps to behave as if their enabled, even if the Dev hasn't bothered to (or couldn't) enable the feature. Just be careful in what you move over

(Edited to clean up auto word selections)

Why not use Ti Backup and even when your SD becomes corrupted you just reformat it and restore the backup?

The OP has found the biggest weakness in some Android phones...

Limited Internal Space.

This is something I try and tell anyone interested in any smartphone to check! Unless you actually never use the features of a smartphone and all of the various applications available, DO NOT GET ONE OF THESE CHEAP, LOW INTERNAL SPACE PHONES!!

I'd never even consider an Android phone that had less than 2GB of internal space. Been there, done that.

Thats why I love my Droid 2. 8GB of Internal space for goodies! :D

You should tap the "check for new content" option to reindex the internal storage. If that doesn't work you should power-cycle it

Why on earth would anyone need 2.8GB of Internal Memory for app's with FroYo, 2.2, which allows them to be stored, and used, from the SD card?

HTC phones don't seem to have as much space as other brands. However, there are other reasons people choose a certain phone.

So, while I wouldn't go so far as to say "Don't buy that phone!", people do need to choose carefully.

If the OP purchased the phone without being aware of the specifications, I can see how one might be disappointed after the fact, but that is kind of like buying a car without checking the mileage...

When this happened, I had been using Titanium Backup. However, since the backup is saved on the SD card, I lost all my backups. That was pre-apps2sd. With apps2sd now, if the card needed to be reformated, not only would the backups be lost, but the app data moved to the card would be lost. I have no idea how this would affect restoring/uninstalling/reinstalling all the apps affected.

Use dropbox to save those backups instead of your card or back the bakcups to your PC up.

Just trying to cover all angles for you AlExFoRsUrE.

Have you cleared your browser cache?
Over time this can build up to quite a large size.

One way of clearing it is as follows:-

Browser > Menu > More > Settings > scroll down to clear cache, clear history, clear all cookie data, clear form data, clear location access.

Hope this helps. :D

Because of the pathetic low space to begin with

take a look at the updates for android

Flash 11mb
maps 9mb
Adobe Air (which is reported to be needed for Gingerbread 16mb)
Gmail 4mb

over time with the way we are hoping for updates to sense etc these will slowly eat up loads of internal memory

then add the apps that you cant move to SD such as any app with a widget you want to use such as swype , twitter etc

then add up all of the files that are on the internal memory as you can only move the main app 2 SD and then see how much memory you have left.

i was constantly having low space warnings but now i have a new Leedroid rom with 1gb partition for apps using A2SD.

i have nearly 700mb of apps etc and still have over 60mb free of internal space

next step is to use the DATA2SD which replaces the internal memory for a partition on the SD card so 8gb internal memory on the desire is almost a reality.

Now i know that some will say to uninstall the apps until you want them but cmon thats a right pain and something we should'nt have to do.

Agreed.

But, there are apps that you *think* you need but, in reality, may have probably used only once or twice.

When push comes to shove, you should delete the low usage apps. They may be nice to have, but, do you truly need them?

I have over 180 apps. But I probably only use about 40 of them on a regular basis.

What's wrong with moving...

Flash (11MB)
and
Adobe AIR (16MB)

to your SD card as I have.

Voila! 27(MB) free!

I currently have 78.76 MB free on internal memory with 84 app's installed.

Just follow the instructions in my earlier post. :D

If you use facebook just check the amount of memory its using up. I freed up about 32mb on my internal memory just by clicking delete data on the manage applications option . Now I do this every time my fb memory usage goes beyond 3mb.
2 reasons I do this:
1. Fb cannot be moved to sd
2. The only thing I have to do is re enter my fb username/ password after each clean up. No sweat!
Anybody tried this?

I quicker and easier way is to just signout of your facebook app from within the app and sign back in. Everytime you sign out, it deletes all cache files and this way, you don't have to go through the tedious process of menu -> settings -> applications -> manage applications.... wait..... wait..... facebook -> delete data.

You can look for a cache cleaner app like Refine Efficiency (Refine Efficiency Pro - RefineAndroid : powered by Doodlekit) also.
- cache cleaner (root and non root(individually)), no sd card cache support;
- market history cleaner;
- task killer;
- start up manager (root and non root(no guarantee));
- task scheduling.
Also browser history cleaner.

How effective is this for cache cleaning for non-root users? I've got cachemate which works great for me, but you have to be rooted.
