Help Internal Memory Issue

Lurker
Okay so I'm new to this type of phone and I'm having an issue with my Samsung Galaxy S.

I have a red SD card icon popping up in the corner with the warning

'Memory Full. Internal phone storage space is nearly full. Delete/Uninstall some applications or data and try again'

I've had the phone for less than 2 weeks. I've taken a handfull of photos, I only sync up 1 day of gmail mail, and no labels. I have downloaded only 10ish apps (i've deleted 5 or 6 since it was full to no avail).

I've looked through the manage apps section and cleared cache / data where I can.

My storage summary is as follows

Program
1.81GB / 1.87GB

Personal data
4.47MB / 127MB

Internal SD card
73.88MB / 13.23GB

External SD card
Not installed so 0/0

I can't transfer any apps to the internal SD card, it says no ;Failed to move application. Not enough memory'

So my questions -

1- if I buy an external SD card and plug it in above the battery, will my issues go away?

2 - How can I use the internal SD card to solve my memory issue?

3 - Where the heck is all this memory use coming from when I've deleted the majority of the apps and the sizes of the ones remaining only show as being a few hundred KB each?

Also one more thing in case it's important - the warning came up (I think) after I used 'layar'. Though I've removed all the cache/date from that and it hasn't helped.

And one more thing... I'm not gonna try anything that'll void my warranty to fix the issue. And I have tried pulling out the battery and leaving it for 10 minutes to see if it fixes it like I read somewhere else.

Thanks. Any help is muchly appreciated.

Something is munching up your data partition. A factory reset will solve the problem, but unless if you identify the app responsible for it, it will probably happen again

Thanks. That's done it for now. Will keep an eye on the apps as I d/l them, see if it's one of them. I spoke to my providers tech service guys and they said if it doesn't work I'll need to send the phone back.

Is there anyway to change the main storage as being the internal SD?
