Help Internal memory issues

Ever since my phone (a Samsung galaxy ace) was factory reset and updated, I have been closely monitoring my remaining internal memory. It had not dropped below 60mb before today however I looked the my phone and it had a warning notification saying it was nearly full and I only have 16mb left.

Is there any reason for this sudden drop and how can I solve it? Many thanks in advance

Are you talking about memory or internal storage? I have received internal storage warnings before, but not memory.
 
Thanks, i just realised i had over 5000 text messages! seems to have solved the problem! thanks for the suggestions
