You know what I don't like? I don't like how there are only a few apps available for some countries while a selected few countries have access to the full library of android apps. What is the reason for that? I live in the Bahamas and owns two android devices, the motorola milestone and the motorola xoom. I had to root my milestone to force access to the "full android market" but I think it is bull sh*t that this country don't get no google love. The thing is I like doing things legitimately so after rooting my milestone I purchase (not download hacked versions) quite a few apps. I bought the Xoom WIFI version and I'll be dam to run the risk of rooting the device so I can access the full library of apps. I spend $600 plus freight to get that yano.

Well anyway, I just don't understand why is it that the Bahamas as along with other countries doing well for themselves, are limited from the android market. We contribute to their success as well. Please some one, wisen me up to the reason I can not buy apps from the market.

Don't mention other alternatives like amazon apps store and other legitimate sites. Because its the same situation with them too.

It's a complicated situation. On one hand Google is quite slow at extending the paid market coverage to other countries, on the other hand there are countries that are actively blocking the Android market from being accessible from their countries.

Not quite sure which side Bahamas lies on.

Im pretty sure the Bahamas is open to such a thing. This is a very open country. Just run by a bunch of old people who don't think much of technology. But still good people though :-)

You will be surprised. Even South Korea is trying to ban the android market, or at least the game section. They are claiming that mobile gaming is harmful. Same goes for Australia, but for the fact that there's no ESRB ratings on android.

I live in Japan and we seem to have a pretty full market, though there are some noted absentees such as Pandora. I wonder, does the language setting on your device affect which/how many apps show up in the market?

I think the restrictions are across countries and devices.
I have access to certain apps (HTC Desire), where a friend cannot with his phone (HTC Wildfire).

I leave in Holland and feel I have pretty much full access to Market. The only exceptions are USA only apps/services, like Amazon cloud player, Pandora, Google TV Remote, etc...

I can only think of the restriction being a clause in a international internet law where some countries must be register as open to infiltration in the private sector, so that the government can monitor terroist activity.
I know, a bit far-fetch but I have nothing to work with here. But I say this because there was a time where we had access to many sites that are limited or block for some countries.

I'll tell you what, OP. Let's trade places. You can come live in Iowa where you can get all the apps your heart desires. I'll go move to the bahamas. I am willing to make that sacrifice. ;)

I would expect it to be location settings, which are pretty easy to determine through IP addresses, etc.

have you tried Market Enabler app?

Market enabler for honeycomb? I don't think it will work right now. Not to mention that I would have to root my xoom to use it. And from what I read on other sites here and there the method hasn't been fully tested. So Im not willing to run the risk as yet. I was wondering though if there are sites that host "current" android apps. I tryed a few but the execution of the site isn't done properly.

Its flattering to see someone willing to give up the great US life for the simplicity of relaxing on sandy beaches overlooking crystal clear waters and drinking skyy juice all day.

Androinica Australia’s puritanical laws could squash Android gaming down under

Language setting does not affect market apps. Pandora is... *sigh*. It has nothing to do with android. Pandora is bound by the media industry to not be available outside of the US. I still remember the day when I lost access to my pandora account because I live outside of the US. That was a sad day.

What's sky juice?

Yea I believe it's a music licensing issue, the music industry will wake up eventually. But we've been saying that for the past decade.

Australia's censorship system is overly cumbersome and outdated. No longer appropriate in the modern digital age. Whilst I see the need for some control, they make it unnecessarily difficult to receive the proper classification.

I don't see the Australia government banning games on the market so much as developers not being able to absorb the cost of having them classified.
