Root [International] Can't install Gapps

i9300

Newbie
Hi all,
The lag on my i9300 has been getting worse so as it is nearly out of guarantee I decided to install cynogenmod cm 20140711. This is now installed and working but I can't install gapps from my sd card. I just get an error "E:failed to verify whole file signature". After much searching and trying different things I decided to try again from square 1 using the method on the cyanogenmod site. However if I try to update the driver now with Zadig which is the first step it just hangs. Whatever I try now seems to fail. The phone itself is working but I can't install any apps. I'm very much a newbie at this so can anybody with more knowledge help me please?

Thanks for your reply funky. I have tried two different gapps and both throw up that error. I think I may have realised what the problem is but don't know how to solve it. I think I may still be using the stock recovery. If I install the tar.md5 file with odin it says it is successfully installed but booting into recovery loads Android system recovery not cwm recovery. Is that possible and if so is there a way to fix it?

Solved: I found there is another recovery program called twrp. I installed that using the same method as I had been using for cwm and this time it did install. Then I installed gapps using that. I've rebooted it and I now have play store and am reloading all my old apps. I can't understand through why odin said it had installed cwm successfully but it wasn't loading. Anyway everything seems to be hunky dory now and hopefully I now have a phone that doesn't lag terribly.
