Root [International] EFS A warning and a plea for help

It would appear that after trawling XDA it is a paperweight with added Wi-Fi. A visit to my friendly repair shop this weekend. Fortunately I can prove it is mine and not stolen. Phoned him up :"yeah I must do twenty a week,

If you're lucky you should be able to sort this with ktool. Ktool doesn't work on jb so the first thing to do is flash some ics firmware. You will then need to root and install ktool

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.hellcat.droiddev.ktool&hl=en

Now open ktool and backup your efs folder. You then need to restore both parts of the backup with ktool and reboot. With any luck the restore process will have uncorrupted your efs.

Thanks Shotty, it's worth a go. Interesting that ktool only works on ICS ROMs.

Only one other thing to ask : Please don't tell a certain ferrite posterior (AKA "Cheese roller") about my "misfortune", while sympathetic, I'm sure he would be more than willing to quote his motto at me! :)

Sorry was I not supposed to tell him? I already sent him the link:D Seriously though, your secrets safe with me:)

Sorted !:D

I phoned my mate who I bought the SGS3 from. I did all his flashing and backups for him (he thinks I'm some sort of geek god, bless him).

Yes he still had back ups, well I got him to copy his GS3 Folder in it's entirety to a USB stick, met him in the pub, and am now home. He had 14 Nandroids (yea gods), eight Titanium backups and a load of ROMS, kernels etc. I found an EFS backup consisting of an efs.img file and an efs.tar from july last year. I made it for him with the PC application SGS3 toolbox.

So I rooted my borked SGS3, flashed Philz recovery and did an efs back up. From there I used Root Explorer to cut out the .img file and insert the good one after renaming it to the cut one. I then went to Philz, unchecked .md5 checksum and restored it. Low and behold it worked. I never expected it to. Right done a Nandroid and another Philz efs back up. Just waiting for a new download of stock Vodafone firmware for it in case I had a bad download that borked it in the first place. New Nandroid (rooted, stock with philz) and efs backups made and saved to a PC and a spare blank USB. Right lets get this baby back to working stock Vodafone.

Phone is no longer mine, gone sold for a fat profit. To my sister in laws mate. She is in awe of it coming from a BlackBerry bold.

Happy days! :)
