[International / GSM] Unable to get a screenshot

Stock GSM Galaxy Nexus, running Jelly Bean for some time now. Just found out about the screen shot feature introduced in ICS (power + vol down). Does nothing on my phone. How do I figure out what is blocking it or if there is some re-assignment of the feature's key combo?
 
I've found it to be rather finicky even on all of the custom roms I've tried. You just have to keep pressing the buttons till it feels like grabbing. :(
