Root [International] Help please: Which RUU?

Hello HTC Oners!

After having an un-broken streak of HTC smartphones since the O2 XDA Orbit II (anyone remember that handset??), I have been using an Apple iPhone 4S for the last 6 months.

However, I've finally purchased an as new HTC One (M7) for a great price and am desperate to start using it and return to the HTC fold.

The handset appears to be a Vodafone UK customer return and, as such, is Vodafone UK branded.

I'd like to remove all of this branding and return the phone to a state akin to me buying a brand new handset from say Amazon UK.

i.e. not tied to any network provider and with the stock HTC software on - as it would have left the HTC factory.

I've spent a significant amount of time researching this and the advice in this Phandroid thread has proved to be a great help - many thanks.

However, I am at the point, I believe, where I just need to locate the appropriate RUU file and install it but my head is beginning to spin from all the information I've had to absorb to get to this point.

I'd be really grateful if someone more knowledgeable could check the steps I have performed so far, see below, and confirm if they are correct.

If so, it would be incredibly helpful if you could advise, based on my requirements, which RUU I need to install.

From the searching I've done so far, I'm not sure which is the correct RUU to use - I don't want to damage my handset as it took me so long to get to this point and it would be a b***h to fail at the final step.

I've also copy & pasted details of my fastboot getvar all config below and can confirm that, when the handset is booted into fastboot mode, it shows as being LOCKED with S-OFF.

Thanks in advance.

Steps taken so far:

1) Un-locked Bootloader via HTCDev
2) Installed custom recovery: TWRP
3) Flashed SuperUser
4) Enabled S-OFF using rumrunner
5) Changed CID to HTC__001
6) Reset Bootloader to LOCKED & UN-TAMPERED using Guru Bootloader

If you have an M7 UL then why not change the CID to Super CID, i.e. 11111111 as this will allow you to flash virtually any ROM you fancy. I also would not go for an RUU as custom ROMs are far more flexible providing useful add-ons.

If you want to upgrade the firmware, and maybe this is what you are asking for then you should look at this thread [June 6]|Newest OTA Firmware|Darkboot/NoWipe/NoRedWarning|[AT&T and GPE added] - xda-developers - I have flashed the Europe/International firmware with no red warning v 5.11.401.10 which is the most current. If you need to know how to flash firmware go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2365506 to Section 2.

Thanks for the reply.

Appreciate the comments regarding custom ROM's but, I need to be honest, I have no need or interest in this - a factory shipped handset configuration more than meets my basic needs.

With that said, am I still correct in my understanding that I just need to install the appropriate RUU?

Hey, how are you?

Thanks again for the reply.

After my last post, I did some more searching and found, what I believed was, the correct RUU which, as it happens is the same one you have linked to.

Anyway, I successfully installed it (as well us running an OTA update) and, finally, my handset now feels like it's mine.

Appreciate your reply which serves to confirm how I proceeded.

One last question if I may, to fully return the handset to factory settings, the final action I need to take is to revert the handset back to S-ON.

Sound right?

If so, I'll look into the best way of doing this.

(Unless there is any inherent advantage to keeping it S-OFF).

Well, S-Off allows you to correct any errors such as flashing the wrong ROM, kernel, radio etc. as with S-On you definitely would have a brick on your hands. But if you don't have any intention on doing anything else but receive the OTA's pushed by HTC then I guess S-On would do.

Is pretty strongly recomend to stay s off. As stated,it offers many advantages. Also not doing any security checks offers much greater flexibility and options dor rescuing a soft bricked device.

Being s on,however,offers no advantages whatsoever ;)

Just holler if you have questions :)
