Root [International] Help with updating a unlocked sim phone

Hey everyone i'm trying to update a HTC one m7 (sim unlocked) the phone is the AT&T version but has been unlocked and is using a orange sim. Due to it not having the original sim its unable to do any of the updates and is quite outdated.
The two questions I have are:-
  • Which Kernal and files would I use as its unlocked?
  • What are the steps in order to go around this? (I know how to unlocked and root and all that stuff)
Thankyou for your help!:)

Since you mention root, if you were to root it you could install any custom ROM you wanted.

If you want completely stock you need a ROM Update Utility (RUU). However, for an ATT handset you'd need an ATT RUU, and my usual sources don't have one of those (it doesn't matter that it's been unlocked and is being used on another network). If you were to make the phone S-Off however you could use an RUU from a different network. Let us know what you prefer and we'll advise (though not me personally in the near future, as I have to join a meeting now).

Thankyou for your reply that greatly helped I probably plan on putting it on s-off, will this allow the phone to able to do the normal orange updates that would be sent through the carrier and also will I fall into a problems in putting it to s-off

Ok, that second one is a custom ROM, so you need to root (or at least install a custom recovery) first. Then you can install the rom following instructions in the first post of that thread.

If you look in the All Things Root Guide sticky post in this forum you'll find links to information about rooting the phone.

Thankyou so much for your help Hardron, I manage to do it all and worked first time.I'm really happy how it turned out and planning to do it to my own htc one m7 now!
