Root [International] i hate launcher redraws and hangs :(

hi all,

im struggling with my seemingly aging ol' s3 :(
im getting lots of launcher redraws all the time - was also get lots of short freezes especially when going to home from g+ etc - think ive fixed that by removing the heavy cm theme i was running

...but still gettting lots of launcher redraws - running holo at the mo, but was getting the same with nova - am on carbon 4.3.1 at mo - but was getting same issue on rootbox 4.2.2

...seems like my s3 is struggling for ram :/ trying a ram manager app - but think that makes it worse! :D

are peeps getting similar? any fixes?

cheers
dan

I never had this issue even when I used to be on stock TW 4.1.2. I always used Nova. If it's persisting as you say, I'd do a factory reset to clean everything up and then put on a custom kernel. Boeffla is great for battery life and you can enable zRam to have increased memory management.

Why not run the launcher as a resident app in something like xposed? Or get the android tuner app and you can exclude apps from me being killed :thumb:

I think Nova keeps itself in ram anyway doesnt it? I think as Sherlock says you should back everything up and do a REAL factory reset to get rid of all the shite. Also maybe reflash carbon. It became pure laggy for me just before i moved to 4.4.
Sometimes a /system format works wonders and reflashing most roms does that

P.s ditch the ram manager app bro. My s3 is at least as old as yours, used about 4h or more a day and its FLYING on kitkat so dont blame the "ageing" phone :p

:D thanks guys - bugger! i need a kitkat :D

ive actually flashed back on to jellybeer 4.33 (4.2.2) - and is running well - not even a nova theme on it for the mo

yes i imagine that kitkat will be good for the ol s3 what with it being smaller and all

btw - how does the resident app feature work in Xposed? does that mean that it is always kept in ram i guess ?

yeah nova and similar have options to keep em in ram .....which sort of works most of the time

cheers

Yeah, you can keep apps pinned to the RAM. Well, it works pretty well, back when I was using TW ROMs, I used to keep Contacts and Dialer in memory due to slow opening times. Now I pretty much never use it.

Also, my other suggestion is to use a custom kernel that supports zram, trust me you'll get double the amount of memory management out of your phone.

cool thanks guys

...so far jellybeer 4.33 is runnng really sweet - just got a light rom theme on it at mo which does seem to help lots it seems - have got nova back on too

cheers

think I've figured part of lag issue.. on carbon 4.3 I had the screen animation dropped to 0.5 which makes phone look quicker, but don't think it gives it enough time to sort it's memory allocation out when returning to home etc... hence nasty lag

You could be right there bro. I used to keep them all at 0.5 or even off but now i kinda enjoy the animations so keep them at 1.0 :)

now on root box 4.2 and with the generally slower animation it sort of hides the launcher pause :-)

taking lots of screen shots still causes the launcher to re draw but that is to be expected I guess

hi FL
redraws are much better after I did a clean nova install with this flash.just had the one after taking 5 screen shots in a row.
the only issue I get now is the delay when going to home..mainly from g+ etc

Does reboot fix it?
I use the App Cache Cleaner widget when things get laggy. Just tap it and its instant instead of having to reboot
