Root [International] Newb: Root, CMW, CM10

So i got my GS3! But, i would like to customise it to my preferences. I want to use widget locker, but not have a double lock screen. This happens-Widget Locker--->Stock Lock Screen----> Passcode. I also don't want to press the OK button after I enter my 4 digit passcode. I've heard CM10 can do that all. Also, it just looks better. But how is it when thinking about battery, performance, internet, and stuff? Do you guys think i should upgrade to Cm10?
If I do, I need help when upgrading. I've done tons of research, but i'm so afraid of bricking my phone, or doing something bad.

I need a tutorial for Root and ClockWorkMod on mac. Maybe High On Android.

Then for CM10 i need a easy one with a tutorial on how to back up.

I can seriously not mess one thing up, since my other htc broke, and i bought this phone at a cheap price on ebay, but I am not willing to take huge risks. Please give me advice on if I should do this, and if I should, give me the safest, up to date, tutorials for mac. I have a 2gb sd card, and i don't want to go out and buy one. Thanks!
 
I think you should just switch off stock lockscreen tbh mate n use WL... have a read around and work out WHY u want to turn your samsung phone into something different.

I have a few but ive never walked into a tattoo shop, flipped through thier pre-drawn designs and chose one... ive always known what i wanted 1st.
Think u gota think that way before u mod your phone. Touchwiz
is very good tbh and the custom roms based on it.
What do you want different in your phone that a custom lockscreen and launcher wont do? :thumbup:

P.s, the Mac might give u problems.... if u wana mod you should find someone with a PC i think bud
 
How do i switch it off? I want to keep my pincode lock with WL. Also, is there any way removing the OK button? If there is then i will stay with the stock. Also, how can i change the icons with nova launcher?
also i have windows on my mac
 
What firmware version are you currently on? I have a guide for rooting on a mac but it may be way out of date and unable to work with newer firmware. I'll dig it out and see what I can find for you :)
 
I will play around for around a few more days, see if i can do the stuff i want. I want to turn off stock lock screen with keeping my pinlock, and also take out the OK Button on the pinlock. If i can't do that stuff, i will download cm10. Will you guys be able to see that i asked for help in a few days?
 
Can i add that i think lockscreen pin codes are a bad idea. The average random thief doesnt know how to factory reset without going into settings and a locked phone will end up in the bin.
I use security apps which can track the phone, Smart Applock to lock down all sensetive apps including play store, browsers and most importantly the settings app.
Then the thief has a fancy lookin phone that can only call or txt (which will help u catch them) and without settings, playstore or browsers, they cant reset the phone (in my experience, phone thiefs arent very techy) and they cant uninstall Smart Applock :)
