Root [International] Please Help

Morning,

Just joined up sorry if this has been covered elsewhere (Im actually risking my job here logging in from the work but who cares need to get this sorted if possible)

Got a Galaxy S3 International 2 days ago and a friend advised me to root and to update to JellyBean software. I just followed google and YouTube videos and Im in a wee bit of a sticky situation me thinks !!!

When it came to going to CynogenMod thing I followed a chaps instructions clicking on CynogenMod9 (install) then Modem (install) then CynogenMod1o (install) however he then clicked on JellyBean file to install and there was no link to do this in his description on video.

I hit reboot and phone definately changed from the custom setting to what I believe is JellyBean in some sorts, however Im having a few a few issues so far with the following which makes me think its not been done correctly:

When adding googlemail account to retrieve all contacts in sync scenario its not allowing me.
I tried to download googleplay as its naturally vanished from phone but when I do this nothing actually happens with the app shortcut created.
Reason for above is because I wanted a certain app which isnt on the phone however its telling me on Web version of Googleplay that this is installed on my phone.

If someone could give me the idiots guide to doing it correctly then I'll stick with it as my phone seems super fast however Ive had problems logging into SamFirmWare to get back to 4.0.4 as I just dont want to continue with things not working.

Thanks In Advance:smokingsomb:

You need to install GApps package.

Better to install stock JellyBean. Best one right now is XXDLI5. Download it, download ODIN and flash with odin, forget about CM.

Not sure I'll be much help, but here are a couple of things to check out that may be of use.

If you goto settings > accounts & sync does your Gmail account show up there?

If not, try signing into the youtube app (not website) with your Gmail credentials

You may also need to do a battery pull, remove battery from phone, press power button to drain any residual power, then reassemble the phone & power on.

You may need to enter recovery (with phone off: press vol down + home +power together until phone boots.) and wipe devlic cache.

You may need to do a factory reset, from settings > back up & reset (obviously the more drastic option, save until last.)

Your phone may take longer to boot (upto 5 mins) upon wiping cache or factory reset but this is normal.

All actions are of course at your own risk.

Hope you resolve your problems though.

Got to this option and got the wee android guy stuck on my screen with no options to move around and choose

Ive managed to get my Google App store back however dont seem to think this JellyBean has installed correctly somehow.

Latest thing I have discovered is that my text messages arent arriving since flashing as Ive sent the command to recieve MMS & WAP settings etc to my network and although Im getting a confirmation of receipt of text its not sending me through the settings now.

Im pretty unsure of all these processes (just as a friend advised me to update etc) and really what Im looking for is someone (if you dont mind) to put the relevant files on here i.e. Zip's which I can then load the correct ones to my handset to enable me to stop looking for help :(

From what I've been reading, you seem pretty "new" to all of this. If I were in your shoes, I'd rather stick to the stock firmware rather than flashing a nightly build ROM which still has bugs here and there.

Sherlock - Your spot on my friend... Only problem I have is what to do to get it back to normal.

If someone could post a direct link to the exact files I need then in the meantime Id rather just put it back to the way it was and stick with it being a tad slower

Can I recommend a custom Rom based on some Samsung firmware. It's based on stock official firmware so you won't have the bugs that are in jb at the moment and should still give you an increase in performance over stock.
[XXBLH1][4.0.4] CheckROM V5 its a Masterpiece | CheckROM
Download the Rom to your phone then boot into recovery mode, wipe data, wipe cache and wipe dalvik (in advanced menu). Then go to mounts and storage and choose format system. Then go to install zip from sd card and flash the checkrom zip.

The Rom says it's a non wipe but I'd recommend doing all the wipes I've mentioned as you are coming from a non Samsung based Rom.

Oh, that is pretty simple. You have the international Galaxy S3, don't you? Let's begin with the necessary stuff:

- Odin: Download
- CheckFus: Download

Well, let's start.
Download both of the software above mentioned. Once you've done that, do the following:

Open up checkfus on your PC and select the options as I did.
See this picture: http://i.imgur.com/qeHvN.png

You set up the drop down menus on the right.
Select "Android" as the OS
Select your device model, which is GT-I9300
Select your region, I guess you are in the UK. If that's the case, select "United Kigdom - BTU", as shown in the picture above.

Then, click on "check firmware" and then, "Download" on the bottom of the window.
Wait until it's done, it takes a little while.

Once done, you should have a "zip" file, if I am not mistaken. If it is so, extract the content and keep that safe.

Now, fire up Odin, should be something like this: http://i.imgur.com/n5iMx.png

Make sure ONLY Auto Reboot and F. Reset are selected. Now, on the right, click on the PDA box and select the firmware you downloaded and extracted. Good, now Odin is set up. DON'T CLOSE IT.

Grab your device and put it into download mode. To do so, turn it off. Now, turn it on by pressing and holding down the VOLUME DOWN key, the home button, and the power up button.

A warning should come up on the device's screen, press VOLUME UP to continue. Now you are on the Download Mode. Get you your USB cable and plug the phone to the PC.

Wait for Odin to recognize your device. When it does, it should look like this: http://i.imgur.com/vTQ04.png

Don't worry if the numbers are different, it's fine.

Now, click on "Start" on Odin and wait. Do not unplug the device or close Odin. It's better for you to don't do anything while flashing. Just go have a cup of tea.
