Root [International] relocked bootloader confusion

InfernalByte

Android Expert
I flash a new rom every couple o months and as things move on so quickly I feel like a noob every time i come back here. As I understand it there is no need to relock a bootloader, ever, but over on xda the google 4.3 rom thread tells that I need a relocked bootloader before updating firmware? I will also need a CID change (11111111). Relocking will also wipe the phone?

Are you flash a rom or running a RUU ?
if your just flashing a new rom theirs no re-locking needed. Running a RUU will fail if the bootloader is unlocked and your S-On. If your s-off your good to go for RUU or Rom flashing

I'm trying to flash Google Play 4.3 and it certainly isn't my first rom, I'm also S-off. Because its the Google Play I'll need to change my CID, and the thread recommends updating firmware. I'm wondering if I need to relock as playing with bootloaders is bricking territory.

Mike1986 has the best version of google play edition right now
you can download it from here Android Revolution HD | Mobile Device Technologies: Downloads
no need to update firmware or change your CID

some folks are doing the full conversion because they wish the phone to recieve OTAs,and essentially "be" a GPE phone.

has clsa said, its not neccessary, and while its nothing that can be undone, its a pretty big commitment if you have a variant that requires a MID change.

easiest way is to simply flash the rom itself. :)

I am still confused. Mike in his post says you need to be relocked! He also says a bootloader upgrade is preferable but not essential for now and I just assumed that with it bein a GTE and that, it would need the new firmware and CID as I'm in the UK. Anyways I flashed the rom yesterday a jsa said and it very smooove and I'm not missing sense and stupid Blinkfeed at all.

Why you describe it as a commitment?

Why you describe it as a commitment?

simply becasue if you do the full conversion, its changing alot of things, and more complex to recover to stock. expecially if you do a mid change,as you need to use the eng bootloader, wich is IMO a lil scary ;)

if you just falsh the rom itself, restoring stock,or your previous rom,is as easy as restoring the bacup.
