Root [International] Root Galaxy S3 Via PC?

Hi all, complete noob here, only had the phone 3 days lol! JUst need to change the "drop" sound on lock screen and found I need to root the phone? Bit of a mess doing it in-phone so can someone suggest a proggy to do it via the PC please? Ive tried Android Commander but it asks for the devices IP and only shows the dir for the c: (windows) drive.

Hi tomkat, and welcome to AF :)

Which type of S3 do you have? If you're not sure how to answer that, GSM/CDMA, network name, LTE or not?

If we know this we can move your thread to the best forum to get expert advice for your phone.

cheers,
Hadron

OK, gt-i9300 is the "international GSM" version. I'll move this thread to the "International S3 All Things Root" forum, which should be the best place to get advice. Have a look at the "All Things Root Guide" sticky post in that forum, as that will include information on how to root etc.

Welcome to the forum.

There is a guide here on how to root.

The method above should work fine but it can be temperamental whether it works on some of the new firmware. It's still safe to try, as long as you follow the instructions the only thing that may happen is that your phone will boot up without root access. If that happens I'll be happy to talk you through another method. But first thing first try this one as it's simpler and only takes one flash.

Tbh. Id just use a different lockscreen app and turn the stock one off (i dont even use a lockscreen tbh but Go Locker has a lot of themes and Widget Locker is great other than its payed and the developer is a rude, ignorant **** lol) :)
Only root if its needed for something u want.. just how i see it :)
