Root [International] Rooting my SGS3

I want to root my galaxy s3 gtI9300 this is my first time rooting a phone, so I have some questoons. I want to know should I use a custom recovery mod? because I saw a guide on XDA forums without a recovery.Which one should I use from the 3 different custom recovery mods ? Can I use custom ROMs without a custom recovery mod after rooting

Yeah use a custom recovery if you want to make nandroid backups, flash roms etc.
I prefer Philz recovery but other people prefer twrp
