International SIM in a Stock Verizon GS5

I have a Verizon Galaxy S5. It is all stock. No root. Not unlocked. I will be traveling to Dubai and the Maldives in a couple weeks.

Can I get a local sim in those places and just install it and be good to go? I have heard yes and I have heard no.

AFAIK, all you need do is plug in the sim card from the new provider.

You don't want to pay the charges, but VZW offers an International roaming plan.
